Yamaha Jet Ski Waverunner

Yamaha’s venture to the marine water craft began as early as the 60’s but the company’s production of the personal water crafts came in later, in 1986. There are several reasons why Yamaha decided to produce PVC. One of them was the increasing interest of the public with Kawasaki’s Jet Ski and Bombardier’s Sea-Doo. (The names Jet Ski and Sea-Doo have become the generic terms for stand-up and sit-down personal water craft respectively.) The sales of the two brands kept on rising that prompted the entry of the WaveRunner into the marine recreation picture.

The very first Yamaha PVC at the same time the very first sit-down PVC was the WaveRunner 500 or the Marine Jet 500T. Although the Sea-Doo first released the sit-downs, the WaveRunner set today’s sit-down market.

A year later, the WaveRunner was shortly replaced with the name WaveJammer 500 or the Marine Jet 500S. This model was considered as the world’s first solo riding sit-down PWC. Same with the WaveRunner 500, the WavaJammer was very agile with its combination of small hull and fixed steering column.

The sit-down model was still very popular during the 90’s and resulted to the introduction of the WaveRunner III 650 or the Marine Jet 650TL. This model was given the recognition as the world’s first PVC that was designed for 3 passengers. It featured high-performance engine, great stability, speed, and a larger hull. This model became the parent of the later Yamaha WaveRunner models as the demands for larger PVC’s increased over the years.

Before the introduction of another WaveRunner (except for the WaverRunner VX650 in 1992) came several other Yamaha PVC’s. These include Super Jet 650 stand-up (jet ski), WaveBlaster 700 that rode like a motorcycle, WaveRaider 700, WaveVenture 700 with a 3-seater capacity, and the WaveBlaster II with a very powerful 760cc engine.

In 1997 came the WaveRunner GP 1200 with one of the most powerful engines in the market. From hereon, the power, size, style, and features become the priority of Yamaha. More models with these characteristics came out. The WaveRunner XL 1200 came a year after. In 1999 two models, the WaveRunner SUV 1200 and WaveRunner XL 1200 Ltd was released.

In 2000, the Yamaha PVC, the WaveRunner GP 1200R, has 155 hp engine with amazing body design. It was followed by the WaveRunner XLT 1200, WaveRunner FX140, WaveRunner GP 1300R with 1200cc engine, WaveRunner FX Cruiser High Output higher performance 4-stroke engines, WaveRunner VX Deluxe, WaveRunner FX Cruiser High Output, and WaveRunner VX 700. All these models are performance driven, stylish and most of all, very affordable.

Saturday, January 21, 2006

Volkswagen announced the Palmela, Portugal factory – Autoeuropa – has been chosen to produce a new car model beginning the first quarter of 2008, but did not specify the model to be produced.

“The decision to produce a new model in Autoeuropa is the result of the competitive cost of production of the factory, well as the favorable conditions of the cooperation established by the Portuguese government and the workers,” announced Wolfgang Bernhard.

José Sócrates, prime minister of Portugal, said he was “satisfied with the decision of Volkswagen to produce a new model in the factory of Palmela,” and considered that the decision, “reflected the confidence [of the investors] in the Portuguese economy.”

Volkswagen will reveal the new model to be produced next week. By 2008, the factory at Palmela will only be producing the multi-purpose vehicle Sharan and the Eos models.

With the end of the production of the multi-purpose vehicle, the factory needs to guarantee new product lines, since the new Eos is not sufficient to maintain the current 2,790 workers.

The Volkswagen Autoeuropa produced a total of 79,896 vehicles last year, of the models Volkswagen Sharan, SEAT Alhambra, Ford Galaxy and Volkswagen Eos, against the 95,660 vehicles produced in 2004.

Canadian university students would prefer MP3 players over car radios

At Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, students are finding that popular MP3 players, such as Apple’s iPod, are very convenient devices for listening to music at the gym, while traveling on foot, and in the car.

In a recent ad-hoc survey conducted by Wikinews contributor Darren Mar, 150 students were randomly pulled aside in the hallways of the university, and asked if they own an MP3 player. 94 of the 150 students (62.66%) did in fact own MP3 devices, most of who were found to be carrying it on them when questioned. There was one simple follow up question for those who had a player: “If it were possible to have complete and safe control of the device on the steering wheel of a car, would you rather listen to your device, or the radio?” There were three answers possible, yes, no or both. Of the 94, 78 (82.98%) said yes, eleven (11.70%) said no, and five (5.32%) said both. The reporting took place primarily on March 16, 2007. The reasons for those who would listen to their device were commercial free music, personalized choice of music, and complete control of what you are listening to.

This study was motivated by the new design of 2006+ model cars. Many are being built with auxiliary jacks for the stock radio, allowing the driver to easily connect any audio playing device to the car’s sound system with a simple 3.5mm plug. What’s more, cars in the upper price echelon are being built with (1) a custom made area in the dash for MP3 players (iPod’s being the most popular), and (2) implementing audio device control right onto the steering wheel. A good example of this is the Ford Fusion or the 2007 Lexus IS250: “The centre console input port allows an iPod, MP3 or Windows Media Audio player to be plugged into the IS audio system.”

Fatal shooting at Salt Lake City mall

Tuesday, February 13, 2007

Five people were killed by an 18 year-old man who opened fire inside the Trolley Square Mall on Monday evening, according to preliminary reports.

Police say they have shot dead one suspect.

The shootings started at 6:45 in The Old Spaghetti Factory on the second floor of the Trolley Square Mall.

Two employees of the Williams-Sonoma store, near the southwest corner of Trolley Square, told KSL that they heard shots and breaking glass from the area of the west parking garage. They say they saw a gunman about 6’3”, wearing a dark trench coat, carrying a shotgun, probably in his 20’s. He came into the mall from the parking garage.

A witness at Trolley Square has said that there may have been a second shooter, a man dressed in normal clothing and carrying a young child. Multiple news outlets have reported an off-duty police officer from the nearby city of Ogden confronted and shot the suspect. This officer is likely the “second shooter” reported earlier.

KTVX had reported that there may have been another shooter inside the facility, however this was later found to not be the case.

The mall evacuation began at 7:00 and is progressing slowly.

The shooter has been identified as Solejman Talovic, an eighteen year-old Bosnian refugee living in Salt Lake City.

Simple Ways To Improve Oral Health Every Day

by

Vincent Lee

Dental health is one area where taking the proper steps can fight disease and decay on a daily basis. Dental professionals have been stressing the importance of proper oral health for decades. This is one reason why nearly 73 percent of the population brushes at least twice a day. Only 28 percent floss each weekday. Nearly one out of every three adults and children has had a dental treatment for a problem such as cavities. One way to improve dental health is to take small actions every day to care for the teeth and gums. There are several dental hygiene tips that will improve oral health over time.

Good dental health starts with the foods that are eaten every day. Firm foods such as apples, carrots or celery should be included with as many meals as possible. The firmness of the foods will work to clean the teeth during the day and will strengthen the gums. It is especially helpful to eat firm foods at the end of a meal. Foods that should be avoided include sugary drinks and treats. The sugar can stick to the teeth and accelerate tooth decay. Sugar also feeds bacteria increasing the risk of gum disease.

Brushing with a mixture of baking soda and water one or more times a week will improve dental health. Baking soda causes a chemical reaction that draws staining agents and other particles out of the enamel and dentin in the teeth. This will help to keep the teeth white after regular cleanings for a longer time. The baking soda also fights certain types of bacteria between teeth and on the gums. Baking soda is slightly harsh and can dry out the gums. This is why it is important to use baking soda only once or twice a week along with regular brushing and flossing.

The tongue is one of the areas in the mouth that attracts a large amount of germs and bacteria. Brushing the tongue can help to remove some of these bacteria. A much better option is to use a special device for oral health called a tongue scraper. This simple tool is run across the surface of the tongue. It removes the upper later of bacteria and saliva that normally gathers at night when the mouth starts to dry out. A tongue scraper should be used every time the teeth are brushed during the day. Scraping the tongue will also reduce bad breath.

Drinking water throughout the day prevents the mouth from becoming dry. A dry mouth allows bacteria to take root on the teeth, tongue and gums. Water also works to remove particles of food that are trapped between the teeth. Another good practice is to chew sugarless gum between brushing. The act of chewing the gum releases saliva that kills bacteria and breaks down food particles.

Brushing the teeth and mouth for just a few seconds does not help oral health as much as brushing properly each day. Brushing is most effective when it is performed for at least two full minutes. This is enough time to remove all of the food and bacteria in the mouth and to activate any chemicals in the toothpaste. It is also important to hold the brush at a 45-degree angle in order to get into the areas between the teeth and gums

Southern California auto maker announces fully-electric sedan

Southern California auto maker announces fully-electric sedan

Wednesday, April 1, 2009

While hybrid vehicles have found considerable popularity in the United States since their introduction, one difficulty associated with the rollout of a fully electric car has been the comparably high price and poor performance, compared to an internal combustion engine-driven car of similar size. Tesla Motors claims that their Model S, a sedan which runs solely on electricity, will be more affordable.

Tesla first entered the automobile market in 2006, with a prototype of an electric vehicle designed on the roadster style. While the car, whose exterior design was based on the Lotus Elise, accelerated well and had considerable range, its cost of US$109,000 was prohibitive for many and to date only 300 have been sold, with a thousand more ordered.

Tesla says, however, that the Model S could sell for around $56,400, with the actual price some $7,500 lower after a Federal Government tax credit on electric vehicles.

Tesla claims the Model S has a range of up to 450 kilometers (280 miles) without recharging and can reach a top speed of 200 km/h (125 mph). It is powered by a 454 kg (1001 lb) battery pack.

Initial plans were to build the car in New Mexico, but instead the Model S will be built near the company’s headquarters in San Jose, California.

Scientists say excess cerebrospinal fluid may serve as early sign of autism

Scientists say excess cerebrospinal fluid may serve as early sign of autism

Thursday, March 9, 2017

In a study that appeared on Monday in Biological Psychiatry, scientists from the Universities of California and North Carolina, with several other universities in the United States and Canada, report a strong correlation between abnormal distribution of cerebrospinal fluid in infants and later development of autistic symptoms.

“The more extra-axial CSF present at six months, the more severe the autism symptoms when the kids were diagnosed at 24 months of age,” said first author Dr. Mark Shen, a postdoctoral fellow at the University of North Carolina.

The study covered 343 children examined aged six months, twelve months, and twenty-four months, 221 of whom had older siblings with autism. Children with higher than usual volumes of cerebrospinal fluid in the subarachnoid space — the area just around the brain — were more likely to be diagnosed with autism later in life, with a strong correlation in the high-risk group. Ultimately, cerebrospinal volume was able to provide an early diagnosis of probably ASD in high-risk children with 70% accuracy. The six-month-old babies who later went on to a diagnosis of autism had an average of 18% more CSF by volume than those who were not so diagnosed. This built on the findings of a 2013 study that covered only 55 children.

Researchers said it is not clear whether a large amount of cerebrospinal fluid actually causes autism or not. While studies have shown that cerebrospinal fluid, once thought to act solely as a cushioner and shock absorber for the brain, can influence the way neurons grow, Shen speculated that the large amount of fluid may itself be a symptom: “We believe that extra-axial CSF is an early sign that CSF is not filtering and draining when it should. The result is that there could be a buildup of neuro-inflammation that isn’t being washed [a]way.”

Currently, coauthor David Amaral said, children are not diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders until they are old enough for their behavior to change, usually at two or three years old. Researchers said these findings could be used to develop an early diagnostic system usable when the patient is as young as six months old.

Growing Television Market in India

by

prashree

On the brick of rapid economic growth, India has witnessed the dynamic change in country’s consumer electronics industry. In last few years the industry has been witnessing significant changes in retail boom, growing disposable income and availability of easy finance schemes. One electronic gadget that has brought new revolution in Indian Electronic Industry is Television Set. Today, India is fast emerging as the key driver in the global television market both as a manufacturer and consumer.

In recent years, the market for televisions in India has changed rapidly from the conventional CRT technology to Flat Panel Display Televisions (FPTV). Currently, the split between CRT and FPTV is around 97% and 3% respectively. In addition to this, one of the most striking changes sweeping across the colour television market in Indian market is the exponential growth of the flat panel television (FPTV) market, in common parlance called the liquid crystal display (LCD) and plasma televisions . Moreover, as per recent research data available, the global market for FPTV is expected to grow from 51 million units in 2006 to 127 million by 2009.Looking at the present scenario, over the last couple of years, the LCD prices have even dropped by around 30 per cent annually. Some of the important factors that boasted this growth also include the increasing awareness of the advantages of LCD televisions, the growing availability of the product across dealer counters and the finance schemes in the market. Besides this, as a manufacturing hub, the television industry is improving more and more. There are many domestic and MNC companies that have increased their production bases in the country. Easy availability of low-cost skilled labor and the emergence of SEZs, which are tax-free zones are some of the key factors that have resulted in growth of these manufacturing units. In fact, encouraged by tax-breaks, new manufacturing units are coming up in less-developed regions now. Today, India is one of the few emerging countries to have an excellent component supply base in terms of manufacturing facilities for glass and color picture tubes, so it helps it a good choice for all those companies who are looking to take benefit of this emerging market.

SpaceX scrubs Falcon I rocket launch

SpaceX scrubs Falcon I rocket launch

Monday, November 28, 2005

SpaceX called off the much-delayed inaugural launch of their new Falcon 1 rocket on Saturday from Kwajalein’s Omelek Island launch site. The intent was to launch the U.S. Air Force Academy’s FalconSat 2 satellite, which will monitor plasma interactions with the Earth’s upper atmosphere and magnetosphere.

The launch was delayed, then finally cancelled after an oxygen boil-off vent had accidentally been left open. The oxygen was unable to cool the helium pressurant, which then proceeded to evaporate faster than it could be replenished. A main computer issue, probably serious enough to cause a scrub on its own, was also discovered.

This long-anticipated flight was originally expected to be launched in January 2005, however a series of setbacks forced a series of delays, with the flight most recently scheduled to be in early 2006. It was intended to be launched from the Kwajalein atoll in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.

The maiden voyage was originally intended to launch from Vandenberg Air Force Base in California with a Naval Research Laboratory satellite and a Space Services Incorporated space burial payload.
