The American celebrity disc jockey Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein has been found dead in his apartment in Manhattan, New York. The cause of death is suspected to be a drug overdose. Goldstein was found dead by paramedics at 5:20 pm. Drug paraphernalia was found at his apartment, but the star had claimed to be clean for years after an addiction to crack cocaine.

Goldstein was a disc jockey at some of Hollywood’s most exclusive clubs and parties. He became a celebrity in his own right after relationships with actress Mandy Moore and the daughter of Lionel Richie, Nicole.

The disc jockey escaped death in September 2008 after he was involved in a plane crash that killed four people. Former drummer for rock band Blink-182, Travis Barker was also injured in the plane crash.

Several members of the Hollywood community released statements about Goldstein’s death. Television host Maria Menounos said “So horrible. In shock” and blogger Perez Hilton wrote on his Twitter page saying “He survived a deadly plane crash and now THIS, I can’t stop crying”.

The Pros And Cons Of An Eyebrow Transplant}

Submitted by: Dr Tyng Tan

Getting your hair done is something that we commonly hear, but having an eyebrow transplant is something that we dont usually hear. But nowadays procedure has gained more attention leading more individuals, particularly women, to have it done. But as a smart consumer it is wise to get to know more about it to be able to weigh the pros and the cons. So here we present you exactly that to help you make an informed decision. You may have pretty eyes, but a nice eyebrow can define it more beautifully.

Eyebrow Transplant Pros

For those who want to have fuller and better shaped eyebrows, you can have the one you want just exactly.

This procedure uses your own hair as donors giving it a more natural look, especially since they are arranged according to the surrounding hairs.

A good set of eyebrows made possible by an eyebrow transplant will give your eyes better frame.

It gives that overplucked and misshapen eyebrows a new and rejuvenated look.

Those who have lost their eyebrows due to trauma (accidents or burns), old age, medical treatments or thyroid problems will benefit from this procedure.

Those who are genetically predisposed with thin eyebrows can gain a new set of fuller arches.

This is generally painless, however for those who have lower pain thresholds, an oral sedative can be administered prior to the procedure.

The procedure is safe with minimal complications.

Scarring will not be visible. There will be scabs on the days immediately after the procedure that they will just fall off painlessly in a matter of days.

This is a much better choice than getting an eyebrow tattoo because the latter looks less aesthetically appealing because it comes out too artificial. Getting an eyebrow tattoo can be very painful too.

They will remain permanent for you to enjoy for many years to come.

Eyebrow Transplant Cons

This can still require some incisions for an FUT approach which is about 1-5 cm long because a single brow may require 300-400 grafts. For an FUE, this will result to more than a hundred minute scars.

For those who like to wear their hair really short, the scars from your donor area may be easily visible.

Although it may only be a small area to fill, this procedure takes extra time to ensure that each hair is placed in a natural position.

There may be shedding weeks after the procedure but this will only be temporary.

Your brows may require frequent trimming because the implants may grow out to its natural length.

It would take a really good surgeon to give you a natural-looking result.

There may be instances where some hair goes out of the grain, but you can remedy this by simply plucking them out.

The cost may leave some apprehensive, as compared to other choices (eyebrow tattoo or brow pencils).

Redness and scabbing may be evident days after eyebrow transplant surgery. But this will be relieved after a week. Just make sure that you dont scratch the scabs to prevent dislodging the grafts or introducing infection.

In February 2017, the Iranian Chess Federation announced two teenage chess players, Dorsa Derakhshani and her younger brother Borna Derakhshani, were banned from representing the national team. The federation announced their decision although Dorsa Derakhshani had previously decided and informed the chess federation she did not wish to play for Iran.

Dorsa Derakhshani is currently 21 years old and holds the International Master (IM) as well as Woman Grand Master (WGM) titles. Her brother, Borna, plays for the English Federation and holds the FIDE Master title.

Dorsa Derakhshani was banned since she did not wear a hijab, an Islamic headscarf, while competing at the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival in January 2017. Under the laws of Islamic Republic of Iran, hijab is a mandatory dress code. Her brother Borna Deraskhsani was banned for playing against Israeli Grand Master (GM) Alexander Huzman at the same tournament. Iran does not recognise the existence of Israel, and previously, Irani athletes have avoided playing against Israeli athletes.

Mehrdad Pahlavanzadeh, the president of the country’s chess federation, explained the decision to ban the players saying, “As a first step, these two will be denied entry to all tournaments taking place in Iran and in the name of Iran, they will no longer be allowed the opportunity to be present on the national team.” ((fa))Farsi language: ?????? ????? ?? ??? ??? ?? ??? ????? ?? ?? ???? ???????? ?? ?? ????? ? ?? ??? ????? ?????? ??????? ????? ??????? ? ???? ???? ???? ?? ??? ??? ?? ??????? ????. Reality TV star sought after model found dead in California dumpster

A millionaire reality TV star is being sought by police over the murder of a model whose body was found in a Californian dumpster. 28-year-old Jasmine Fiore was found dead in an unzipped suitcase in Buena Park, Orange County.

Police are seeking real estate tycoon Ryan Jenkins, 32, a contestant on the reality show Megan Wants a Millionaire, in which former Rock of Love hopeful Megan Hauserman dates several rich men with the aim of ultimately becoming the girlfriend of one of them. Jenkins reportedly met Fiore at a Las Vegas strip club and married her two days later.

Jenkins reported the swimsuit model missing hours after the discovery of her body. Since then he has not returned calls from investigators and is considered a person of interest. Police suspect he may be on the run and are trying to trace him as well as a black and white Mercedes car he may be driving.

It is thought that Jenkins may have returned to his homeland of Canada. Fiore, who had worked for Playboy, had been strangled according to police. Her body was found by someone searching for goods to recycle. She was last seen alive at 8:30 p.m. on Friday and had not contacted her family since then.

Gastric bypass surgery performed by remote control

">
Gastric bypass surgery performed by remote control
No Comments »

Sunday, August 21, 2005

A robotic system at Stanford Medical Center was used to perform a laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery successfully with a theoretically similar rate of complications to that seen in standard operations. However, as there were only 10 people in the experimental group (and another 10 in the control group), this is not a statistically significant sample.

If this surgical procedure is as successful in large-scale studies, it may lead the way for the use of robotic surgery in even more delicate procedures, such as heart surgery. Note that this is not a fully automated system, as a human doctor controls the operation via remote control. Laparoscopic gastric bypass surgery is a treatment for obesity.

There were concerns that doctors, in the future, might only be trained in the remote control procedure. Ronald G. Latimer, M.D., of Santa Barbara, CA, warned “The fact that surgeons may have to open the patient or might actually need to revert to standard laparoscopic techniques demands that this basic training be a requirement before a robot is purchased. Robots do malfunction, so a backup system is imperative. We should not be seduced to buy this instrument to train surgeons if they are not able to do the primary operations themselves.”

There are precedents for just such a problem occurring. A previous “new technology”, the electrocardiogram (ECG), has lead to a lack of basic education on the older technology, the stethoscope. As a result, many heart conditions now go undiagnosed, especially in children and others who rarely undergo an ECG procedure.

Heating bills, oil price rise predicted

Heating bills, oil price rise predicted

Wednesday, October 12, 2005

USA — A US government report was issued Wednesday predicting the rise of heating bills due to colder temperatures and impacts Hurricanes Rita and Katrina had on the nation’s energy production.

Local forecasters predict that most of the US will have a warmer-than-expected winter this year. However, households that heat their homes by gas can expect to pay 29.8% more in heating bills. In the case of colder-than-expected weather, an increase of 66% in household heating costs is likely. In typical weather, prices will rise about 47.6%. Households that use electricity can expect a rise of about 5% from last year. NOAA‘s 2005-2006 U.S. Winter Outlook calls for warmer-than-normal temperatures across much of the central and western United States, including Alaska and Hawaii. The Midwest, the Southern Californian coast and the East Coast have equal chances of warmer, cooler or near-normal temperatures this winter.

Around one third of the US crude oil and one fifth of the natural gas outputs in Mexico still remain closed due to hurricane-related damage. Seven oil refineries remain offline.

The Energy Information Administration predicts that the price of oil will rise to around $64 per barrel (42 gallons or 158.97 litres) in 2006, with $58 being the average for this year.

January Themed Crafts For Kids

By Rachel Vince

Here are some January themed crafts for kids that include both summer craft ideas for those who are in summer in the southern hemisphere, and winter craft ideas for those who are in winter in the northern hemisphere.

1. Calendar craft

Use a real calendar covered with your childs own artwork to make an interesting calendar you will love the whole year through.

Supplies Needed:

Calendar for the new year

Construction paper

Crayons or markers

Glitter

Nontoxic glue

Provide your child with construction paper cut to fit over the picture-portion of the calendar you purchase. You might be able to get free calendars that some pharmacies and real estate companies give away around holiday time.

After she uses the construction paper to make a picture for each month, simply glue these to the calendar in the appropriate place. After all of the pictures have been glued, press the calendar under a large heavy book to flatten it. Your child may wish to make several calendars and give them away as presents.

2. Frosty Window craft ( for those of us living in winter in the northern hemisphere)

These really do look like frosty windows!

Supplies Needed:

Epsom salts

Warm water

Small container and spoon

Small paintbrush

Sheet of black construction paper

Colored construction paper

Nontoxic glue

Add 6 or 7 Tbsp of Epsom salts to cup warm water, and stir the mixture until no more salts will dissolve. Then using a small paintbrush, brush the misture over a sheet of black constructiojn paper (8 x 11 inches). Allow the paper to dry overnight or place it on top of a floor heat register/vent. This will give it the frosty appearance. Mount on a piece of colored construction paper and then glue a vertical strip and horizontal strip right across the paper for the window panes.

3. Simple Bird Feeder Craft

Save those crusts of bread instead of throwing them in the garbage. Have your child poke a hole about an inch from the top of the crust. Leave the crust out on the counter overnight to dry, then tie a piece of yarn or string through the hole. Take it outside and hang it on a tree-easy bird feeder. Your children will enjoy watching the birds come and eat from it.

4. Sand castle craft(for those in summer in the southern hemisphere).

This recipe allows you to build a sand castle or sculpture and then keep it as a keepsake.

Supplies Needed:

1 cup sand

1/2 cup cornstarch

1 tsp cream of tartar

1/4 cup hot water

Old pot

Old spoon

Mix sand, cornstarch, and cream of tartar in an old cooking pot.

Add water. Cook over medium heat while stirring continuously until the mixture is too thick to stir. Allow to cool and mold into desired shapes.

This sand takes a couple of days to dry. You can keep leftover clay in an airtight container and use it another day.

5. Handprint flower

Trace four handprints onto colorful paper. Cut out the handprints and then glue all of the bases of the hands together in a circular pattern to form a flower. Cut a circle out of yellow paper and paste it in the middle.

City of Calgary, Canada removes fluoride from drinking water

City of Calgary, Canada removes fluoride from drinking water
No Comments »

Thursday, February 10, 2011

Calgary city council voted 10 to 3 on Wednesday to stop fluoridating their water supply. This overturns a previous plebiscite from 1989 to add the fluoride in an attempt to reduce tooth decay.

Opponents of water fluoridation claim that there could be unknown health effects of fluoride, and question its effectiveness in preventing tooth decay. They also claim that individuals should be able to decide for themselves whether or not to use fluoride. However, Alberta Health Services maintains that current evidence shows that fluoride is both safe, and beneficial to dental health.

It is estimated that no longer fluoridating the water supply could save Calgary’s city council C$750 thousand (€550 thousand) annually, as well as cutting a C$6 million (€4.3 million) upgrade to the fluoridation system.
