Man jailed for manslaughter of wife in Hampshire, England

Saturday, October 31, 2009

A man has been given a prison sentence of nine years for the manslaughter of his wife in Hampshire, England. 40-year-old Sally Sinclair was head of business analysis for mobile phone provider Vodafone and had been killed in August 2008 in her home in the village of Amport, after admitting to her husband that she had had an affair. When her body was found in the kitchen of the house, it was discovered that she had suffered a partially severed head and at least 40 stab wounds. Winchester Crown Court had heard during the trial that the attack was partly witnessed by children.

You exploded in a frenzy of brutality in reaction to certain information you forced out of her

Alisdair Sinclair, who is 48 years old and caused the attack, was cleared of charges of murder, but was sentenced to nine years in prison for charges of manslaughter. Judge Guy Boney QC has been quoted as saying: “Your wife did everything she could to support and help you and indulge your eccentricities, including spending £100,000 (US$164,470) on three cars of the same model you hardly ever used.

“She wanted to make the marriage work and save it from collapse. These efforts cost her her life. Sally Sinclair appears to have coped with, and tolerated, your behaviour over a long period. When she could not take any more of your behaviour you exploded in a frenzy of brutality in reaction to certain information you forced out of her.”

Speaking about the case, Detective Sergeant Sarah Simpson from Hampshire Constabulary said outside of the courtroom: “A successful career woman had her life tragically and prematurely cut short and her family now have to lead their lives without her. Nothing can ever compensate for that.”

Business To Business Payments Different Types &Amp; Challenges Faced!

Owing to the ease-of-use, convenience, and availability of modern technology, financial management has become quite easy for the modern businesses these days. While many businesses, still, use the traditional cash payments for their Business to Business payments transactions, there has been a rise of companies which have adopted electronic B2B payment methods.

When opting for a payment mode for your modern business, there are many factors that must be considered, such as security, processing time, etc. While one payment mode can work for a business and not for another one, choosing the right business to business payments methods can be quite challenging. This is why we bring to you this detailed guide on different types of methods available along with the challenges associated.

The different kinds of B2B payment mediums

Cash

This is the traditional method that has been used by most businesses since a long time, but this seems to be gradually obsolete. These days, especially when it comes to business to business payments, it seems weird to come and pay a supplier a briefcase full of bills.

Checks

In addition to cash, accepting checks is also another commonly used traditional payment method. After all, it is relatively easy and there is also a trust factor associated with this payment mode. This category includes traditional paper checks and electronic checks issued by a purchaser to a seller. Once the check is deposited to the bank, the payment request from the buyer’s bank will be sent to the seller’s bank.

Wire transfers

In this modern day, when more and more businesses are working with clients who may be located in other cities or countries, using wire transfer has gained popularity. Introduced over 150 years ago by Western Union, the payment is electronically routed through a financial network like SWIFT and Fedwire. While it can be expensive, but many businesses rely on this method to accept payment from international clients.

Credit cards

Almost everyone, these days, owns a credit card and it can be accepted for business to business payments. However, it is not accepted by many businesses, especially the ones operating at small scale because of the processing fee involved.

Payment gateways

If you have been working with the international clients for long, you would be aware of the different types of payment gateways such as Paypal, Stripe, Square, and Bill.come. The best part about using these payment gateways for payments is that the buyer can make the payment to seller, which is received instantly. The process is quite easy, allowing the buyers to pay for good and services online during the checkout process.

The Obstacles for B2B Payments

  • Payment mediums variety – While there is a large range of payment methods available for business transactions, they also have their own drawbacks. The reason here is that not all businesses are the same, which means not all the payment methods will work for all of them. For example, one business may find accepting check for payments, while other may like to receive online payments for quick and easy payments.
  • Security issues – We are living in this age where online transactions are very common. While the scenario has made things easy, it also poses security threats for the businesses as well as their buyers as the online hackers are always looking for the vulnerable platforms. When it comes to accepting online payments, things can be quite tricky as the data is exposed to the hackers who know how to get access to the financial details. According to a study conducted by Deloitte, over 22% of the middle market business have been attacked by payment fraud in recent years. To ensure safety, it is important to ensure having a secure payment method and gateway that is encrypted with the advanced technology.
  • Transparency – Almost every business, that received payment, would like to know about the status of the payments being made. The goal is to control the cash flow of a business. In case a particular payment method is not offering transparency, things can be quite challenging and hectic for the business.
  • Cost – When you are accepting payments, you need to keep in mind various costs such as fee for transaction and account maintenance that you need to bear. For example, if you are accepting payments through wire transfer, you have to be willing to pay significant fees for payment services. While there are certain fee involved with the online payments as well, you can opt for a business to business payments partner that offers best price for your transactions so that you can save more on every payment being received.
  • Time – Following the complex process involved with thebusiness to business payments processing, it can take days for the payments to be received. So we can say that it is time-consuming to get all the payment made as expected. According to the experts, it takes over 40 days to process a B2B payment, especially when receiving through the traditional payment methods.

Benefits of B2B Payments

When you integrate a suitable payment methods to receive payments for the sales of goods or services, you are likely to enjoy a range of different benefits associated with it. Some of them include:

  • Improved cash flow – For a business, ineffective cash flow management can be a challenge and cause of business failure. With the automated or online payment transactions, it is possible for the businesses to see the patterns in their incoming and outgoing cash flow via reports. This all helps minimize any unwanted results from financial management failure.
  • Save time and resources – Why hire a professional dedicated to process the payments, while you can have them all processed automatically online? This is the power of online payment transactions. This gives your team members more time to focus on other vital areas of operation or product development.

Final Thoughts

The technology has made life easier. And payment transactions are no exception here. Today, the modern business transactions are a lot complicated than the past, which makes it important to choose the right and smart business payment method with the reliable partner. Choosing the right payment platform for your B2B business is like choosing the right boat for your journey.

Tornadoes cause millions in damages in Waco, Texas

Tornadoes cause millions in damages in Waco, Texas

Saturday, May 6, 2006

Early Saturday morning winds up to 90 miles per hour struck Waco, Texas and central McLennan County, United States, causing widespread damage and leaving many households without electricity.

No deaths or serious injuries have been reported; however, there is a tremendous amount of damage in 15 areas of the city, leading Mayor Virgina DuPuy to declare the city a disaster area.

The hardest hit area was Franklin Avenue, where the Coca-Cola bottling plant’s roof was peeled open as if by a giant can-opener. There were Sprite bottles spread out onto the street. The nearby Furniture Row shopping center was also hit hard. Some furniture was found as far as three-quarters of a mile away. Other hard-hit areas were Robinson, Hewitt, Woodway, and Speegleville. Densely populated Inner Waco was spared of any catastrophic damage, though hundreds, and possibly thousands, of trees have fallen, and roofs destroyed.

The main concern is restoring power to over 23,000 households and businesses. Many gas stations and grocery stores in the disaster areas were closed until power is restored. Those that remained open have had to throw out all perishable items. Also of concern is getting electricity to those with medical needs. The city has provided help to those without power at the Dewey Recreation Center.

The storm is the hardest to hit the area since the tornado that struck on May 11, 1953, which tore through downtown and killed 114 people.

Waco has seen more than its share of tornadoes recently. Only a week ago, an F1 tornado damaged many houses along Orchid and Kendall Lanes. No people were injured, though two horses were killed when their stable collapsed.

The National Weather Service confirmed this morning’s winds were a F2 tornado, where wind speeds may have reached 115 miles per hour in some locations.

In Toronto last weekend, North American anime and manga convention Anime North was held. Anime North sprawled across multiple venues, including the Toronto Congress Centre, as a fan-run celebration of Japanese pop culture. The event ran from May 25 to 27. Wikinews’s Nicholas Moreau was in attendance to photograph the event.

Montrealer “Aileen Cosplay” was wearing an outfit of Rapunzel from the Disney animated film Tangled, when Wikinews photographed her.

Wikinews talked with her after the event, learning that she was one of the “Estrada Sisters”, who have been dressing up as pop culture characters for roughly a decade. “Cosplay is something we do together as sisters, as well as with our close friends. It’s a hobby and passion that we all share and have fun with.”

The cosplayer explained that the activity “integrates a wide range of interests for us, from makeup, to sewing, to crafting and prop-making.”

“When deciding on cosplays,” she offers, “we consider how attracted we are to the character as they were written, as well as their aesthetic. We tend to stray towards Disney, as we all share a common passion for the magic that it brings to its audience, and we love having the opportunity to bring that magic to life every time we put on a costume.”

Binrand Cosplay tells Wikinews that for her, cosplay “is a huge creative outlet whether that’s sewing, crafting, armour building, styling wigs, new makeup challenges etc. I love that it gives me creative freedom and that the end result I can share with hundreds of people that have a love and passion for the same character or series that I am cosplaying from.” The icy effect on Shyvana from League of Legends gave her reason to work with Transpa Art, a product from a company called Worbla.

She noted that the activity also allows her to “meet new friends that are just excited about something” as she is.

She chooses characters she’s become attached to, as her outfit. “Often it’s a combination of similar personality as my own, a character that has gone through similar struggles as myself, I like the look, and that they just plain badass! I also like a challenge. Having been doing cosplay for as long as I have I like to switch things up and learn something new every year.”

Explanation of Indian Constitution preamble in brief :-

We the peoples of India are solemnly declaring to set up / organize India in to a Supreme ruler by adhering to principles of socialism and not connected with spiritual or religious matters and relating to democracy and its principles. A country in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives and to secure all its citizens. Further it is defined in four cadre / systems :-

1.Justice : – To give justice relating to Society best suited for living, Economy in terms of profitability and relating to Government or public affairs of the country .

3.Equality :- Indian citizens have an equal status & opportunity in an Indian constitution and Indian constitution promotes all the citizens for their equality in the constitute.

4.Fraternity :- Indian Constitution assures every citizen of India for their Quality of being worthy of honor or respect and unity amongst them and the integrity of the nation.

On 26th November 1949 Indian constitution adopted a law and put in to practice to give ourselves (Indian Citizens) to the constitution and abide as per the Indian Constitution.

Let us understand with an illustration :- If any NGO / Organization is established or formed then it is very clearly stated that NGO / Organization has to stick to it principles, purpose & fundamentals and will be abide by the law & constitution. Even NGOs / Organization stick to its constitution after its formation. NGOS are non-taxable as they are non-profits organizations. Same way in the Indian constitution many government sectors are exempted from the taxes. Why?? What was the reason to exempt government from the Taxes? Because government too is a non-profits establishment and for that reason it was exempted from the taxes. But now a days government is purely a profitable sector which collects only & only tax from the citizens of India. Are we making profits by consuming our basic necessities to live life & sustain in the country ?? Then how can government take tax on it from us ?

This is our Country , It is a matter of whole country, It should be the question of every citizen. Are we having illiterate personnels in government who cannot understand the basic principles of the constitutions or we are having purely corporate personnels who are just functioning the government as a business / corporate sector. It is very clearly stated in the constitution that adhering to principles of socialism and not connected with spiritual or religious matters and relating to democracy and its principles. A country in which supreme power is held by the people and their elected representatives and to secure all its citizens.

Whatever circumstances and challenges we are facing in our country today is only & only because of the unemployment, cost of living and inequality. And the root cause to all this problem is not following the basic principles of the constitutions. Government is planning very high goals but is blind to see the base of the country. The first & foremost goal of the government should be that each & every citizen of the country should get Food, House, Water, Hospitals, Education, Electricity, Employment etc. etc. basic necessities for the living. If this is not achieved yet then how could government think of high goals. Government should first work to fulfill the basic necessities of the citizens by exempting the taxes on all the consumables items for living day to day life.

Government should adopt such systems in which basic necessities are covered of the citizens and after that from their earnings profit government can charge them tax. Any consumable / eatables should be tax free / exempted and the tax should be only on the profits on which government have rights for the development of the country. But if government will take tax from their basic necessities itself then this will be against the constitution and the socialism and of course against humanity too if seen as human.

As stated in the constitution about justice relating to the society for best suitable living, is our government following the constitution for it ? I must say the government had imposed taxes on each & every items & services for which end user means a consumer has to bear. The consumer is an Indian citizen he may be a rich or poor but whatever he may be, he has to pay for it. Due to tax imposition the cost of living for every citizen is day by day increasing which leads to a poor economy & weak socialism. Which is against indian constitution. Is this the way to run the government as per the constitution ? No absolutely not. The constitution is made so that each & every citizen of india can live & sustain their lives with ease and equality and honor of respect & dignity.

Our Great Leader to whom we know as Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi lead a Dandi Yatra just because for the Tax laid on the Salt by the British East India Co. It is an exemplary illustration. Gandhiji did not even allowed to levy tax on the salt which is having a minor to minor value. The only concept for it was to exempt the tax which are consumed as the basic necessities of the citizens. In the same manner our every great revolution was most probably for the Lagaans (Taxes) which were laid by the Mughal Emperors & British East India Co. After so much of struggles & revolutions we got the independence and finally the Indian Constitution was made so to abide the government by the laws for the welfare of the citizens and good governance which can make the citizens to live with equality & socialism. But now this government has forgotten the basic fundamental of the constitution. And once again leading us back to those old days of revolutions.

I want to share one best example :- In Sansad Bhawan canteen they are giving lunch & foods at very minimal price (Negligible Price) why such ??? Why their foods is so cheap ? Why government cannot provide food in such a price / rate to all the citizens of the country ? We should think on it. We all are having a good blessed brain and are well educated peoples. What logic or what concept is government following ?

1.Tons of stock of Eatables are stored in the warehouses and get wasted.

2.All the standard quality of goods & items are exported to foreign countries.

3.Foreign Sectors are invited to invest in our country and we are made to be a slave or an employee in our own homeland. Once again its against basic principle of constitution for which great revolutions were made by our great leaders.

4.Thousand crores of money are spent for foreign tours & programs by the government, Just think if it was utilized for the development of our own country ?

5.Every unemployed person who are willing to get job in government sectors / departments are charged 100 500 Rs. For filling application. Why such ?? Government is earning crores of rupees from unemployed citizens through it. Its a matter of shame to charge an unemployed person for it.

6.Industrial Sectors are growing at vast speed why ?? Govt. & Industrial sectors both are bhai bhai now. They are lease concerned about the socialism they want money.

7.1.4 Lacs Crores (Approx) of Bad Debts were faced by all the banks in india as per RBI. Whose money was all this ??? Who is the ultimate sufferer of this ?? Of course non other than a citizen who keeps his money in banks for safety.

8.Giant Companies are now declaring as bankrupt. Whos Money was in all this ??

9.Pricings are at top No limits on the price increase even in basic vegetables & eatables. Why ?? Who is responsible ? Who has the power to control inflation ?

10. Government employees are paid 7th Pay and the other side a poor citizen is dying hard to earn Rs.100 /- a day. Who is responsible for this inequality ? Doing more work then the Govt. Employee but earning just up to 10 % of Govt. Employees basic pay. Inequalities is a major factor in employment whether its Govt. , Public, Private or Individual Labour.

11. Cost of Education & Books are too high. How can a poor citizen study their childrens ?? Why inequalities in schools / colleges ??

So is it like we should keep our country poor and give our food & treasures to other country just for development ?? Why our government is not taking initiative to first fulfill all the basic necessities of the every citizens of India. And after accomplishing the cost of living government can step for further development. Government is taking share as a form of TAX from every rich & poor citizen and then it is saying we are using for your development but how ??? Why in such a manner ??? Be practical think economically think socially. Politically it may be good at their end but at social level its the worst system to run the government.

I specially request all the youths of my nation this is our time to show up, if we will not do by now then we will be the victim in future and will give spoiled government to our future generations. Government is going to levy GST with slogan as One Nation One Tax One Market. I have made very clear with above examples is it One Tax ?? Then how government can make us fool by making such statements of one nation one tax.

We should obviously opt for one nation one tax but it should be in practical and not a fake slogan. It should be in real on profits earning and not on the basic necessities of the citizens. We want to develop but not in such a way by which poor citizens of india are dying for it. We have equal rights & honor let all the citizen first get their basic necessities then will do further development.

On this Independence day I want to ask my Indian citizens that are we actually living in a democratic country or are we a real Independent ?? No – We are all slave of Government to pay each & every penny to live and for consistence in this country. It is a matter of regret that our great leaders has fight for our independence and our government do not feel the value of independence.

Once again I request to each & every citizen of India please get information as much as you can and lets take initiative to do something for government of our country. It is our duty for the nation to get government into its actual Constitution

Australians need bigger toilets

Australians need bigger toilets

Tuesday, March 7, 2006

Standards Australia, the non-government standards setting organisation in Australia has indicated that it is reviewing the weight limit for toilet seats as they need to accommodate the “increasing size of humans”.

Obesity levels have been rising for years in Australia. Australian Bureau of Statistics data shows that the percentage of Australian men who are overweight or obsese rose 10 percent in the last ten years to 62 percent. The number of females who are considered overweight or obese rose 8 percent to 45 percent. Standards Australia is considering recommending strengthening loos for larger users. They say experts will examine the seats “from the perspective that people are getting bigger.”

Standards Australia says as the community’s weight increases, and many more Australians are in the heavier categories, toilet regulations have to be updated. General manager of standards development Colin Blair says toilets are currently required to meet a rigidity test of 45 kilograms (99 lbs) – which accommodates most people’s weight in a seated position.

He says a committee including manufacturers and consumers will assess whether that is still adequate. “They will re-look at what the statistics are on weights of people, they will re-look at that rigidity load and then that document will go to public comment, so obviously the experts out there will have an opportunity to re-look and see whether that load is appropriate,” said Colin Blair.

Standards Australia review committee member Steve Cummings, head of research and development for toilet manufacturer Caroma Dorf, said toilet seats currently only had to withstand a 45kg load. “We are bringing it in to line with the weight of a heavy Australian,” he said.

The draft seat standard is due to be issued for public comment mid-this year and set for release by the end of 2006.

Health economist Paul Gross recently said the price of obesity for the community was about $11 billion a year.

Although Israel briefly lifted its blockade of crossings in the Gaza Strip today, United Nations (UN) officials warn that a further blockade could lead to dire consequences for some 750,000 Gazans who rely on UN food aid. Israel blockaded the Gaza Strip in early November, preventing access for UN aid workers and journalists.

The border crossing was opened to allow some food aid and medical supplies through, however, United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) spokesman Christopher Gunness warned that “it is just not enough.”

The UNRWA also warns that Gaza faces “a humanitarian catastrophe.” Karen Abu Zayd, commissioner general of UNRWA, said the death toll since the beginning of the Israeli blockade is the gravest since the early days of the Palestinian intifada eight years ago. The Israeli blockade has shut down power for the Gaza Strip, and patients at local hospitals are in grave risk of death because of faulty generators.

“Almost every part of the intensive care unit runs on electricity which comes from Gaza’s main power plant […] that plant is run on fuel from Israel, but no supplies have reached the plant for well over a week now,” said Al Jazeera‘s correspondent in Gaza.

Israel closed the Gaza Strip on November 5 because of rocket fire emanating from the area after the Israeli army units entered and carried out an operation against members of the Hamas combat wing. Currently all foreign journalists are banned from entering Gaza. AP, Reuters, the New York Times, the BBC, CNN and other major news organizations have protested the blockade.
